1-Day Project LOST Outdoor Challenge Program

A challenging day of outdoor pursuits and survival skills……includes nature hiking and orienteering, survival team challenges, a low ropes course, and campfire cookout. All activities are geared towards building confidence and self-esteem, including team-building. Environmental awareness and respect, and eco-self sustainability are emphasized.

Potential Sites:

  • YMCA Outdoor Conference Center near Nobleton
  • Vaughan Maple Nature Reserve Outdoor Pursuits site
  • Bark Lake Outdoor Conference Center (for weekend program)
  • Laurel Creek Conservation Center (no low ropes course)
  • McMaster University Outdoor Discovery/Royal Botanical Gardens site
  • Elora Gorge Conservation Area (no low ropes course)

Itinerary:

  • 09:00 - Opening Circle/Orientation (Goals, Objectives, Three R’s Concept, TEAM-
    Concept {Together, Everyone Achieves More}, and 4day/3 night expedition?
  • 09:30 - Nature Loring and Hiking
  • 10:30 - Survival Island Team Activity
  • 11:00 - Survival Challenge (Shelter-building and Fire-starting without matches!)
  • 12:00 - De-Briefing, Campfire Cookout and Bannock-making
  • 13:00 - Low Ropes Challenge and Trust Activities, De-Briefing; or Fire by Friction Challenge, Circle Trust Building Activity, Plane Crash CASE STUDY activity
  • 15:00 - Orienteering Adventures (Map & Compass)
  • 16:00 - Wildlife Calling, tracking
  • 16:30 - Closing Circle and Vision-Quest (each participant draws a circle in the sand, and formulates a definition/conception as to where they want to be in their lives, and in society.

Notes:

The program includes a campfire cookout, complete with food provisions (and flour for bannock-making), all instruction, and materials. Participants/institutions to provide their own transportation to/from site.

This program can include canoeing, snowshoeing (winter), and other adventure-based activities.

This program does not require any training or planning seminars.

Fee:

Suggested fee = $99. per client, not including transportation to / from outing site.

Equipment: What To Bring:

  • water bottle (1or more litres of water)
  • sunscreen (uvb 30 or greater)
  • insect repellant
  • trail snacks eg. granola bars, trail mix (no peanuts or nuts)
  • rain coat, extra sweater
  • hat (sun hat & wool/fleece toque)
  • whistle
  • compass
  • hiking shoes
  • small day backpack
  • notepad, pencil
  • NB! -enthusiasm and willingness to try new activities!
