DESCRIPTION:Overview:\nThis course will teach students how to identify 50-75 different species of plants\, trees\, shrubs\, ferns\, and lichens.\nPurpose:\nTo learn the uses (edible\, medicinal\, or camping) of wild species\, and learn to distinguish poisonous and toxic species.\nTopics:\nbasic principles of ecology and habitats\,\nspecies preferences and site distribution\,\nrules and regulations\,\nsafety and health concerns\,\nethics of plant foraging.\nStudents will also learn to make teas\, salads\, jams and bannock.\nDuration:\nseminars (2 three-hour evening sessions or 1 eight-hour Saturday session) \, plus\,\nfield hike (9 hours)\nMisc:\nCourse field manual available at first session\, $ 9.95.
